 Shipping Container Fire Bunker

An Australian family survived the large bush fires in February thanks to to a home built fire bunker made from a 20 ft shipping container.  The Container was buried, with a brick wall and door at one end for entry and an air vent in the roof.  Bevan Gobbett took refuge in the bunker for six hours with his wife and six year old daughter as the fire raged outside.  You can read more about it here.

I lost my house on Black

I lost my house on Black Saturday, however I wasn't in the bush rather 15km closer to the city. Since I wasn't insured enough to cover the costs of rebuilding the house as it was, I'm seriously looking into cargo-container housing as an affordable means to rebuild (also it's been a pipe-dream for some time, the fire has just forced my hand).

Sorry to hear about you

Sorry to hear about you losing your house but glad that you survived.  Good luck rebuilding.  If you decide to go the container route then let me know and I'll cover it on the site.
